Firebug, an extremely nice Firefox Extension for debugging Javascript is very keyboard friendly.

Just press F12 to show your debugging pane.

I unintentionally close tabs sometimes.

If you need to open the last tab you closed in Firefox, just press CTRL+ALT+T and it’s back!

I’m a huge fan of Firefox’s Find as you Type feature (Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General – > “Search for Text when I start Typing”) ( Alt+T, O, Arrows until “advanced”, Tab, CTRL+Tab until General, Alt+X ;-) )

There are two “modes” you can use with Find As you Type:

- Press “/” to just find text that matches your inquiry.
- Press ” ‘ ” (next to semicolon, the symbol for feet) to find only links that match your test.
- F3 will “find again” in either mode.

Writing Javascript isn’t easy. Debugging it can be a pain. Before the Web Developer Toolbar, I had to go to Firefox’s address bar and type “javascript:” to get the Javascript debugging console. Now it’s just a shortcut away.

CTRL+SHIFT+J will bring you to the Javascript console.

One of the first posts on this site was about Alt+D and the address bar – when you’re in the address bar in IE or Firefox, just press F4 and the menu will drop down and you’ll see previously typed addresses.

You can view your history in Firefox and IE by pressing CTRL+H.

Don’t forget, if there’s something in your history that you don’t want there – you can clear out your history using Firefox and CTRL+SHIFT+Delete

Alt+E, N will take you to Firefox’s preferences menu. (In FF > 20, you may have to use Tools – Options on some platforms)

Then navigate to the “Advanced” section and press Alt+X (you can use the arrow keys to get to “advanced”)

Then press Alt+F4 to close that window. The enables find as you type, which is a great tool to use in Firefox.

Here’s an example of the usage: Google “Finding Nemo”. (CTRL+K, “finding nemo”, Alt+Enter)

Just type “2003″ within Google, and the first link with 2003 will be selected. You can then go to the link with enter or CTRL+Enter for a new tab.

Go to the address bar in IE7 or Firefox — type the address of the site you’re wanting to visit (e.g., http://www.google.com) and press Alt+Enter to have it opened in a new tab.

Ever use an application that requires a drop down to be used?

Sometimes a submit button is nowhere to be found. You either have to lose ‘focus’ on the selection sometimes the app will just assume you want to go to the first selection in the dropdown.

A good example of this is the Disney site. Check out the dropdowns at the bottom. Press Shift+Tab about 8 times until you have selected a dropdown. In order to see the entire contents of the dropdown you have to click. Or… you can press Alt+Down to see the entire contents. This also works in Firefox’s search window (CTRL+K , Alt+DownArrow).
